The Offset Television

via Studio McGee

You may think that if you have a fireplace in your home, your television should automatically be mounted above it. There’s nothing wrong with this look, but there is another option that can particularly come into play when creating a design for custom built-ins in a space. Offsetting the television into a side niche allows the focal point of the room to be the fireplace and whatever is hanging above it — a mirror, art, or sculpture piece instantly becomes the star of the room. Varied conversational seating around the room allows for television views throughout the space so that whoever wants to be watching the TV has perfect access to it, and perhaps someone reading a book or magazine has a spot further away where the best view isn’t completely necessary.
