This course touches on the aspects of the business of Interior Design. Students will learn how to market themselves, charge for their services, how to work with clients, as well as the important elements of a design services agreement (contract). Coverage includes entrepreneurship topics such as choosing a corporate structure, tax implications, and contracting with clients. Students are also introduced to sales and marketing principles, from attracting and meeting customers and setting appointments, to making coherent and logical design presentations. Integral elements of personal presentation include: the rules of business etiquette, the psychology of the sale, and establishing rapport with prospective clients. Each of these concepts is incorporated into the curriculum along with letters of agreement, professional resumes, job interviewing and presentation techniques. *Expectation of outside class work required.
