ID003: History of Furniture

Students will learn about the various architectural and furniture design motifs throughout world history. Course material includes learning about historical events and beliefs that influenced the development of different styles and tastes. Time periods studied include Antiquity, Middle-Ages, Italian / French / English Renaissance, through to Modern Times. This information is crucial to understanding the development of interior design and furniture throughout history and assist clients who will want period styles, reproduction furniture, or use of antiques. The vocabulary and themes learned in this course are essential in communicating design themes within the industry. *Expectation of outside class work required.
