The American Institute was founded in 1988. The founder of the school, Judy Thompson a professional designer herself, was determined to fill the need for realistic training and preparation for students of interior design.

The American Institute is committed to an atmosphere of positive reinforcement, personal attention, student involvement and participation, and in-depth, concentrated studies.

Students and instructors at the American Institute immerse themselves in one subject at a time and concentrate totally in that area. Because the instructors are all active designers, the subject matter is related to the design field by personal experience of the instructors. Instructors are committed to producing the most knowledgeable and efficient design graduates possible, and are willing to spend personal time to see that their goals are achieved.
